The Dome of the Rock and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre from the Mount of Olives. The Dome of the Rock is Islam's oldest existing religious shrine, built in the 7th Century on the former site of the first and second Jewish temples of Jerusalem, the Temple Mount, known to Muslims as the Haram esh-Sharif or "Noble Sanctuary." The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, its twin grey domes visible above and to the left of the Dome of Rock, is built on the site traditionally believed to be that of the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Christ.
